Washington, DC là một trong những thủ đô đẹp nhất thế giới và có thể là thành phố có đặc tính Pháp nhiều nhất nằm ngoài nước Pháp vì nó đã được thiết kế bởi kiến trúc sư người Pháp Pierre L’Enfant.
Trong buổi trình chiếu này, kiến trúc sư Đỗ Viết Quý, là một cựu học sinh của trường JJR & MC, sẽ giải thích về thẩm mỹ và những ý nghĩa kiến trúc đằng sau những tòa nhà chính của DC. Quý bạn sẽ khám phá nhiều điều thú vị về những công trình này:
- vì sao DC được tọa lạc ở vị trí hiện tại;
- tại sao có một dấu phẩy giữa “Washington” và “DC”;
- tại sao đa số các tòa nhà của chính quyền liên bang đều mang màu trắng, ví dụ như Tòa Bạch Ốc (Tòa Nhà Trắng), Quốc Hội, Đài Tưởng Niệm Lincoln, v.v…
- những điểm tương đồng giữa Paris và Washington, DC;
- vì sao những hình chụp Tòa Bạch Ốc và Quốc Hội thường cho thấy mặt sau của chúng và không cho thấy mặt tiền;
- lý do vì sao các tân tổng thống của Hoa Kỳ tuyên thệ nhậm chức ở mặt hậu của Quốc Hội và sau đó đi xe limousine về Tòa Bạch Ốc;
- tại sao không có những tòa nhà chọc trời tại DC;
- v.v…

Washington, D.C. est l’une des plus belles capitales du monde et peut-être la ville la plus française hors de France car son plan a été dessiné par un architecte français, Pierre L’Enfant.
Dans ce diaporama, l’architecte Đỗ Viết Quý, un ancien élève des lycées Jean-Jacques Rousseau et Marie-Curie (JJR & MC) vous expliquera la beauté comme les traits saillants de l’architecture des principaux édifices de Washington, D.C. et de leur signification. Vous découvrirez alors plusieurs détails intéressants à leur sujet:
- Pourquoi Washington est-elle bâtie sur le site actuel?
- Pourquoi y a-t-il une virgule entre “Washington” et “DC”?
- Pourquoi la plupart des bâtiments du gouvernement fédéral son blancs, comme la Maison Blanche, le Capitole, ou le Lincoln Memorial, etc…
- Les ressemblances entre Paris et Washington, D.C.
- Pourquoi la plupart des photos de la Maison Blanche et du Capitole montrent-elles la façade de derrière et non de devant de ces édifices?

THE ARCHITECTURE OF WASHINGTON, DC
Washington, DC is one of the most beautiful capital cities of the world and perhaps the most French city outside of France because it was designed by French architect Pierre L’Enfant.
In this slide show, architect Đỗ Viết Quý, a former student of JJR & MC, will explain the beauty and architectural meanings behind the main buildings of DC. You will discover many interesting facts about them:
- why DC is located where it is now;
- why there is a comma between “Washington” and “DC”;
- why most federal government buildings are white, such as the White House, the Capitol Building, Lincoln Memorial, etc…;
- the similarities between Paris and Washington, DC;
- why most pictures of the White House and the Capitol Building show their rear façades and not their fronts;
- why newly elected presidents of the US take the oath of office at the rear of the Capitol
Building and then take a limousine ride to the White House;
- why there are no skyscrapers in DC;
- etc…
This presentation will help you understand and enjoy the architecture that you visit not only in DC but also in the rest of the world.
